The Start of PRAXISPACE
Imagined by Alexandra Beller, a former principal member of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, more recently a choreographer for her own dance company Alexandra Beller/Dances and as a commissioned choreographer for stage works (recent works include Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility by Bedlam Theatre; Fandango for Butterflies (and Coyotes)
by Engarde Arts) and recipient of the Helen Hayes Award for outstanding choreography. PRAXISPACE was built in 2019 in response to hearing from artists that they felt disconnected from one another.
PRAXISPACE was designed to create an online community full of choreographers and makers who crave an artistic, discursive practice beyond what their lives currently offer–whether because of work schedules, geography, parenthood–designed as a way to be in community regardless of physical location. It is an online platform of choreographers, artists and makers.
